Not Your Average Tall+Skinny Home
While you might think you've seen it all when it comes to this particular style of contemporary craftsman, this home delivers a delightful surprise. Modest from the outside, it opens up into a truly breathtaking atrium-inspired living room—an unexpected showstopper that never fails to wow visitors.
“There's so much daylight that pours in, with skylights and windows on every wall. There's privacy due to the way windows are positioned, which makes you feels safe and cozy in the space…
I love sitting on my big comfy couch drinking my coffee while the morning light streams through, or on the armchair enjoying the warmth of the gas fireplace.”
— THE SELLERS
Kenton
Known for its small-town charm with a big personality—think friendly vibes, indie shops, and a giant Paul Bunyan statue keeping watch—locals love Kenton for its walkable streets, vintage homes, and a growing food and drink scene that feels both fresh and deeply rooted in community. It’s the kind of place where neighbors actually say hi and weekend farmers markets feel like a neighborhood block party.
“I love the "downtown" Kenton strip - it's home to some of my favorite things in Portland. Specks Records is one of the coolest record shops in the city and holds frequent in-store performances. Give & Take consignment shop is FULL OF GEMS! Half of my wardrobe is from there. Posies Bakery is a neighborhood legend. I love having parks in all directions and I love exploring the neighborhoods around me.
Just to the west is St. Johns with Cathedral Park (where you can now swim!). It’s also only 20 min to Sauvie Island, which is one of my secret go-to spots to get away and unwind.
I love that we’re just a jump to I-5, which means I can easily zip down south, or over to the 405 in minutes, or up north to Hayden Island or over the bridge to Washington. It only takes 2 hours and 45 min to get to Seattle from my door. ”
— The Sellers
“I love being positioned between two parks, Kenton Park (on the way to the main strip) and Columbia Park. Walking to Columbia Park in particular has become one of my favorite after work rituals, or even when I just need a break in the middle of the day.”

The sellers have put a lot of love into this home over the years. Their pride of ownership shines through—from functional upgrades to stylish touches, they’ve kept this home looking good and running smooth. Here are a few of the projects they tackled (so you don’t have to).
Modern Functionality
While the sellers have made stylish updates over the years that bring an additional layer of character on top of the new-build functionality, this home is a contemporary construction built with a 21st century lifestyle and building codes in mind. Living in a house design for modern living offers a special kind of luxury that’s a rare find in walkable Portland neighborhoods.
-
High Ceilings
With soaring 9 ft ceilings on the main level and vaulted ceilings in the primary bedroom, every room feels spacious and light-filled. Homes built prior to the widespread use of central heating and insulation needed lower ceilings and smaller rooms to effectively contain heat generated by a fireplace. With contemporary construction technology, newer builds can more easily maintain temperatures even with larger spaces.
-
Energy Efficient
Earth Advantage certified homes have been professionally verified to meet high standards for energy efficiency, clean indoor air, water conservation, and all-around sustainable living. So you can breathe easier, save on bills, and feel good knowing your home is doing its part for the planet. The structure is a 2×6 construction rather than 2×4, which means thicker wall cavities for thicker insulation. Many older homes lack exterior wall insulation entirely, allowing this one to save greater amount of energy during cold winter and sweltering summer days.
-
Modern HVAC & Plumbing
While most craftsman bungalows were built as single level homes that later converted the attic space, this home was designed and built as a two level living space from the get-go. This means that ductwork was planned effectively to transport air throughout the entire home—so no need to install mini-splits to supplement insufficient airflow over on hot days.
-
Large Closets
While living a minimalist life sounds appealing, the reality is that people today have a lot more STUFF than they did in 1920. This home boasts generous closets throughout the main living spaces as well as the bedrooms. The primary bedroom has a large double wide closet that can accommodate the wardrobe of Portland’s most avid fashionistas.
-
Ensuite Bath
Once upon a time, indoor plumbing and bathrooms were considered a luxury. Adding them later was expensive and complex, leading to a single bathroom added in less ideal locations. This home was designed with bathrooms in all the logical place, including a half bath on the first floor for visitors, an ensuite primary setup, and a separate full bath for the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms.
“There is so much storage space! There are multiple large closets both upstairs and downstairs (including the big storage space under the stairs) provide a ton of space for all seasons of shoes, wardrobes, craft supplies, and even the odd piece of smaller furniture you're not sure where to put, but you don't want to part with just yet.”
Versatile Layout For Entertaining Guests
Thanks to its spacious open floor plan, this home offers a blank canvas that can flex to accommodate your lifestyle. The sellers have reinvented the space as their priorities evolved over the years—starting with one giant living room with a dining nook tucked beside the fridge, and later transforming it into it’s current iteration fit for hosting dinner parties and game nights.
“We’d host friends every year on Christmas evening— Martinis, records, and lots of cheese and snacks! The downstairs space is a perfect setup for entertaining…while you're shaking another martini and nibbling on cookies at the kitchen counter, you can keep the conversation going with friends who are lounging in the living room.”
A Bedroom Fit For A King (Sized Bed)
With its generous footprint, high vaulted ceilings, large double closets, and a connected ensuite bath—this bedroom serves serious sanctuary vibes. In inner Portland, spacious setups like this are a rare find in homes under $1 million.
“The primary bedroom holds a special place in my heart—it feels safe and cozy and easily fits our king sized bed, two nights stands, multiple dressers, and even a bookshelf. It also has a double closet space to accommodate two people’s entire wardrobes.
Our pet loves sitting in the extra deep window sill in the bedroom. It's a great view from high up, where he can watch the neighborhood (and the birds!). And you can see some great sunsets from the west-facing windows!”
A Backyard
For All-Seasons
In 2022, the sellers had this deck and transparent covering built so that they could enjoy their backyard year-round.
Whether you’re sipping coffee on a rainy winter morning under a heat lamp, soaking in the sun while reading a book on a quiet afternoon, or hosting friends for a backyard barbecue—this deck has you covered in every season.
“In the summer, I like to have my coffee out back in the morning. The deck gets great sun in the afternoon and our pet absolutely loves lounging in the sun out there.
We made such good use of the space during social distance gatherings. There's ample space to hang out under the covering, around the fire pit, or even in a hammock in the corner.”
